Tinu' Tories (IVy "Moturoa.") ■ Mr Matthew*, of Waitara, has in work a two-ycnv-old coll by .Advance oui oflmpali, which according (o Lli<i<r wlin have seen the youngster should turn out to be something pretty good. Star Rose lias been having a fairly easy lime of it since the Cup. and if is considered doubtful whether the New Zealand Gun winner will stand another solid preparation, There is also in the same stable a very line looking filly foal by Obligado from Inipati. The Waitara owner has lately engaged C. Jackson as private trainer in place of Charlie Parker, who has relinguished his position, news which many sports in tliis district will regret: la hear. Charlie has gamed many friends in Taranaki, and wherever he goes he will carry with him their good wishes for his future welfare. Although' some bookmakers appeared before the Court the. other morning to answer charges of betting on tihe race-
lone of the fraternity who was present, and who even ventured into the saddling paddock. If he had been taught a lesson it would perhaps haye done him good as lie is a one-sided gentleman, who is pleased to receive but objects to pay out. This class of so called bookmaker is of no use to the community, and is a discredit to the genuine bookmaker who, by the way, is not always as bad as he is made out to be, but they all haye to suffer for the sins of one or two of the calibre of the gentleman mentioned above.
