VOLUNTEERING

THE CAMP. There was not a large body of men under canvas last night, nearly thirty members of tke Guards having gone to Hawcra to engage in a skooting com. petition. After inspection by Colonel Okcy, Major Malone took charge, and put the men through antourse of instruction in assembly formation. ( Two points on which, officers and men arc agreed are these: that Quartermaster-Captam Cock knows how to pitch a camp and to superintend tho commissariat arrangements; and that Messrs Whittaker and Riddell, the contractors for food supplies, are doing their utmost and giving full satisfaction. The " fall in" last night sounded shortly before seven o'clock. At 7.20 a couple of uniformed men were seen leisurely strolling through the Recreation Grounds, viewing tke improvements.
