On behalf of the widow and children of Christian Stenersen, master mariner, of Wellington, a e'aiin for i£4oo compensation from the Colon} haa been filed in the office of the Arbitration Court. Deceased was drowned at Karamca on 18th July last while taking soundings on the bar for the purpose of harbour improvements, the fatality being caused by the upsetting of the'boat. Another case arising <>ul of the same circumstances is Unit bromdit on behalf of the father and mother of James Hunter, marine cutfincer, who was drowned at Karamea on the date specified. The sum oi !£3OO compensation is claimed on his behalf.
