A case of considerable interest to tradespeople and others was heard at tlie Kketahima Magistrate's Court to, day, when a storekeeper was fined forty shillings and costs £1 Cs for giving an unstamped reeeiut. The.de* fence admit led receiving tho money, lml contended that as tho sum was duly credited m the statement asked for and received by plaintiff that was sufficient, ii stamped receipt beiag forwarded later. Mr James, S 31., ruled that an acknowledgment on the stalemeat was insullieionl,. and a duly stamped receipt should have been forwarded at the time.
