SPLENDID FEAT OF THE ENGINEER*. Received 1-Ith, 11 p.m. Sydney. January 14. The llangatira has arrived. The steamer made a favourable passage from New (iuinea, at the rate of eight knots. At the time the shaft broke the weather was good, and continued so during the three weeks* drift before the shaft was temporarily repaired. On arrival at New Uninea. a coffer dam wab rigged under the stern after great the engineers having to make aW their own gear. They succeeded in replacing the broken shaft with a spare one. The captain andone-third of tire crew sull'ered from malarial fever. The captain is await ing instructions from the owuerj.
