OI'ENKD IX ClllUSTClll'RClf. Per Tress Associafion. Christeluirch, -January 14. The Xew Zealand liowling Association Exhibition tournament w « s "I 1 ™" ed in Chrihtchurch this morning. A record entry has been received for the tournament. 88 rinks taking pait in the play, which began this morn injr. The North Island has a representation of -■> rinks, the largest number it has ever scut to a South Island tournament. Entries for the doubles and .singles championships are expected to make anotner record, and the competitions will gam interest from the inclusion of some ..0 or 40 Australian visitors. Ail the best known players iu the colony aie taking part, and there can be no dqubt that the play will be at least as good as any previous tournament. Rain was faSling. lightly at halt past 8 the hour of commencement, and Jt Ivas fiflly half an hour after tnat a start was made oil all the greens. Even then the conditions were not ideal, tor the greens were playing ratiier dead, but as the day became warmer the tun improved rapidly and good play was obtained. The 88 rinks competing in the tournament have been split up m tleven sections, which arc playing minor tournament's among then own members. Each link in "A" section js to plav all the other rinks m the game satetion. and the winners \yvl nlav off for the championship. The Canterbury, Christeluirch, St. Albans, and United' greens are engaged; four sections playing on the Canterbury green, two on Christeluirch, two on St. Albans, and three on the United. Three rounds in the champion rink tournament were played during the dav, and further rounds will be play j;d to-morrow.
