The Uawhiti and Heather were first across, but the Sayonara held Hie lead for the first half mile, when the Rawhili look it.

The Sayonara was apparently too light, and' carried 100 much canvas, but was not as expertly handled as the RawhiU and Heather.

The former sailed like a witch, sailing eorkily over the seas, while the Sayonara jumped, and shipped a deal of'water. At every lack the New /..•a lander increased her lead, anil rounded the buoy for home IS minutes in advance of the Victoria. Interest in the. race then centred in the contest between the Heather and Sayonara. The wind fell light on the home ran.

The Uawhiti passed the post fifteen and a half minutes ahead of the Sayonara, who conceded the Rawhili 2-t seconds. The Heather was eight minutes 20 seconds behind the Sayonara, but time allowance placed her second, with S..J.S. third and Sayonara fourth.
