AUSTRALIAN LEATHER.
STOPPED FOR "SUGAR" DUTY IN LONDON. DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT. Received lltli, 10.45 p.m. London, January 11. The Customs at London stopped large parcels of Australian leather because the export certificates showed they contained sugar and glucose, on which tho Customs are claiming duty, thus delaying delivery to consignees. It is considered that export certificates are not necessary, and are not used for American and Argentine leather, which contain sugar, but enter free. Mr Coghlan, Agent General, has written to the Customs asking that the same treatment be accorded all I leathers.
