MAGNIFICENT FIREWORKS . (By Wire—Special Service.) Christchurch, January 8. Over 18,000 people visited the Kxhibition yesterday, of whom it is comput ed more than 10.000 were present at the display of fireworks in the even ing. Special trains from the country brought in crowds of visitors to -re this spectacle, which for variety, brilliance and novelty, won the admiration of all. Startling lightning cll'evl> were reproduced with wonderful lid-l ity;_rockets of different designs de lighted the vast assemblage, and set pieces, including a clever representation of Niagara Falls ami a cyclist endeavouring to loop a blazing loop were as beautiful" as they were novel. later displays portraits of New Zealand's prominent public men will be similarly displayed. The organ recital by Mr Massey, or ganist of Bathurst Cathedral, last night proved a most enjoyable per forniance. Mr Massey's technique an.: phrasing are brilliant, and he exhibits a fine appreciation of harmony -and in Bight into the more subtle shadings o; tone.
