TARANAKI TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
TAIUXAKI V. AUCKLAND. WIN FOR LOCAL PLAYERS. Jt was found impossible on Tuesday to complete the finals in the combined handicap- doubles and the Taranaki men's championship singles. The latter was out of the question as the result of au accident at lunch, Dickie receiving an extra hot shower of tea down his back. In the third round of the combined handicap, Alisß A. Dickie and Keith beat Aliss K. Dickie and Wallace, but the final was not plavcd, and the prizes were divided between Aliss I'yd and Brown and Miss K. Dickie and* Wallace. At the con elusion of the day's play, Aire Home t wife of the vice-president, Dr., Home, presented the prizes, in the ab«3.:e of Dr.- Leatbaiii, . president, and Airs Leal hum. In a few well-thought words, Dr. Home thanked the visitors, the ladies, and the Press. Mr Gross man responded for the viitors, and expressed their intention of again competing at- the tournament. Cheers were exchanged between the home and visiting players, and a special salvo for Air I'at'on,- the secretary of the Taranaki Association,
Xlie annua'i interp'rovineia] match between Auckland and Taranaki tcaniß was played on Tuesday, and as most of the players had been ehoseii from Hie tournament winners, the exposition of tennis was good. Tournament form was reversed in the ladies' douliles, Misses Gray and L'dy, of Auckland, vanquishing the Ttiranaki champions, Misses l'owdrell and JJickie, 2-0, (1-0, o—2. in the other contests the results were consistent with those in the Association gamse.
