REPORTED CESSION OF TAHITI TO BRITAIN.

Melbourne. January 7. It is stated on the authority- of missionaries in the Pacific Islands that Great Britain and France have completed negotiations whereby France cedes Tahiti to Britain in consideration for certain territorial concessions in Burmah or further India.

Mr Deakin, Federal Premier, states that he has received no communication in reference to the matter.
