CLARENCE KENNELL. By the death, which occurred early jesterday afternoon, of Mr ' Clarence' Rcnnell, Now Plymouth lost one who had teen.amongst its foremost citizensand business men for the last quarter of a century, Mr Renuell was one of the oldest surviving. identities, having arrived in New Plymouth in the pride of his manhood over 40 years aso. Born in London 75 years;: ago, he; caught the gold" foyer in the " Golden Days" and emigrated to Victoria, and tried his luck at nearly all the A'ictoriari diggings. • Notwiffisfaincling tluit he had lived.five,years beyond 'the allotted span, up till, two or tl\rco weeks ago he lyas in daily ' attendance at ; his Office, actively Superiiilending the sevoral important institutions with which lie was identified. With some of these Mr llcnnell's name is iudissolubly associated. He was ono of Ike founders of the New Plymoulh Invest-' ment and Loan Society, and the New Plymouth Gas Company, and held (he responsible, position of secretary to each of'them for 31. ;ahd ; 2'J .years respectively. Mr Rennell". was also at the time of his death secretary of the New_ Plymouth Harbor Board, a' position he had held for just over 25 years, Ho was also secretary to the Trustees of St. Mary's Cliurch for 30 years past: All his public offices he filled with thoroughness unit distinction, an (| his intimate and almost exclusive Knowledge of Iho history of the institutions he controlled of'in l estimable yal»-./ he wag iato Mrs Rennell having predeceased him by • about 17 months.
