Mr S. Hill, Government Valuer for taranaki, who had been on a brief .-cut to AYcllington, returned to New Plymouth last evening. Mr E. Craig, who has been on the New Plymouth stall: of the New Zealand Insurance Co , left for Auckland last evening, on transfer.
On Tues.lay evening, Fireman J. Sims was presented by the New Plymouth Fire Brigade with a bar, rcprescnting seven years' seryicc. Mr.J.C. George, whose health has been indifferent of late, underwent a serious operation yesterday. Last evening he was as well ns could be expected under the circumstances. Mr a. H. Wilding, of Christchurch, ivho has been so successful as a tennis Mayer in England, arrived in Welling, ton yosterday by the Buapehu (says a Press wire). He was welcomed on arrival by the members of the NewZealand Tennis Association, and enterlamed at a gathering over which the Mayor presided. lne Key. V 7. Gray Dixon, M.A., of Auckland, is to leave at the end of February, with Mrs Dixon, on a visit to England. The " Herald" states that •Mr Dixon, who has now been in Austnuasia for some twenty-two years, expects to no absent from this colony lor about seyen months. It is likely that the Rev. T. Golclie, M A of Mountain Cross, Peebleshirc, Scotland, will act as locum tcnens during his absence.
Mr Justice Edwards, whoso Health has for some time past shown a need for recruiting, is to receive twelve months leave of absence for a holiday trip, says a Press wire from Auckland, nis Honor, accompanied by Mrs and Vliss Edwards, will leave Auckland shortly to eateh the P. & 0. steamer .Mongoha, which leaves Sydney on February 2nd. They will travel by her as tar as Egypt, where they propose to stay for some little time at Cairo, afterwards visiting Tunis and : Algiers. The journey to England will be resumed m time to rcack London in late spring. Visits to Continental cities are to be included in the later arrangements The return journey will m all probability be made bv way of China and Japan.
