The race was the best Austral ever -oen. After traversing six hips: the I back-marker.-, drew up with the middle division. -Thomas rode stronglv when ilie bell went, with Smiili and"llciidrv leading all along the back stretch. Ihomas then closed on them., while Morgan, who bad previously'caught them, led into the straicht, 'with lie hir close up. Half Vav up the -traignt, Thomas gave a great jump, and dashed away, winning by a length in 3iuiu 59scc, which is a record lor the race.
