Sydney, December 14. Mr Sydney Smith (Anti-Socialist) was rejected at Macquaric. The Telegraph computes that compared with the old (louse the antiSocialists and Labour Socialists have gained a niember each at the expense cf the Ministerialists.

In Victoria, Senator Eraser heads the Senate poll, Mr J. H. Met'oll, who retired from the House of Representative!!, is next, while the third place goes to Mr T. Tunniclifle (Socialist).

The Ministers claim that they will have the support of the Victorian Auti Socialists in their proposal to revise the tariff. It is expected that Parliament will meet in the middle of February.

A striking feature cf the election is the reverse sustained by Labour in (Queensland. Three Ant i- Socialists remain in. the van for the Senate. Mr Higgs (a strong Socialist) is fourth on the list, and may have a chanc if coming up. Mr Dawson (a Socialist and another meinlwr of the late Parliament) is hopelessly defeated. Mr M. Culpin, Mr D. A." Thompson. and Mr .J. Wilkinson, all Socialists and old members, lost their seats. Mr Watson regards this reversal as onlv a passing phase.
