'Die Federal Arbitration Court has given an award in connection with tho claim of the Merchant Shipping Guild of Australasia for the amelioration of conditions with regard to rates of pay. The award divides steamers into two classes—"A," passenger, and "B," cargo, and further divides into four classes according to tonnage. The pay for masters in class "A" ranges from £2l to £34 per month on a tonnage basis; chief officer, £ls to £l7 j second ollieers, £l2 to £l4; third officers, £lO to £ll. In class "13," masters range from £2l to £3l j chief officers (all), £ls; second officers, £l2; third officers, £lO. Ths pay for fourth and fifth: officers on all ships is £B. The award comes into operation on the Ist January, and remains operative for three years.
