JAPANESE BRIDES' TWELVE COMMANDMENTS.
That the movement to free woman from the bonds of overbearing man receives but .ltile encouragement 111 tue sunny land of Japan 15 evident from the commandments given to Japanese brides on their wedding morning by tneir mothers. The benests are known as the "Twelve Commandments of the bride,'' and read as follows:—
1. The moment you are married you are no longer my daughter. I'herefore you must obey your par-ents-in-law as you once obeyed your father and mother.
2. When you are married, yonr husband will be your sole master. Be humble and po'ite. Strict obedience to her husband is the noblest virtue a wife can possess.
3. Always be amiable towards yout mother-in-law.
4. Do not be jealous; jealousy kill= your husband's affection for you. 5. Even though your husband be wrong, dj not get angry; be patient, and when he has calmed down, then speak to him gent.y. 6. Don't talk too much; speak no evils of your neighbors; never tell lies.
7- Rise early, retire late; and r 1 o not sleep in the afternoon. Drink little wine, and unti: you are fifty take no pan in public assemblies nir mingle in crowds. 8. Consult no fortune-teller. 9. Be a good manageress, and especially economical in your household.
10. Although you marry young, do not frequent ioj youthful society. 11. Do not wear bright-colored garments. Always be neatly but moderately dressed.
12. Do not pride yourself upon your father's rank or fortune. If he is a ric'i 111.1- 11 vrr allude to hiriches before yjur husband's relations.
These ruks are similar to those which were in vogue in Japan hundreds of years ago.
