J THE EIGHT WITH ROME. (ALLICANIS^ I vest's i'!.Tl{AAit N' lAN s.V I NlO KTI~ NAT K~PA I'A I. IIKcKKi:. GOVERNMENT DETKUMINEI) NOT TO YIELD. Received loth, 0.1.i p.m. London, December 10. The Times' Paris correspondent says there is grave news from Home that the Pope forbids Catholics to comply with the Law of 18S1, by making even one annual notification regarding assemblies for religious worship, on the ground that those gatherings cannot be assimilated with public meetings. The Vatican has obviously been misinformed regarding the state of opinion in France. I Itramontanos themselves are surprised, and fears are expressed that th# prohibition will encourage the tendency to (iallicanism. The French Government was never more determined to yield nothing in matters of principle to the exigencies of the Holy See.
