A monster shark has recenily been captured by two Italian fishermen in San Pedro Bay, California, and is claimed to be tho largest fish of the ipecies which has ever been brought ashore anvwhere in the world. This monster weighed 14,0001b, or (I tons 3 c:\yt. It measured from the tip of its 1 ail to th° tip of tho nose 32ft, and the circumference of the body just forward of the dorsal fin was 15ft. Its mouth, when opened horizontally, was 25ft, the lower jaw being 35ft. ' The shark became hopelessly enmeshed in some 1500 ft of the fishermen's net, which it speedily tore into strips, but the strings and ropes were wound many times around its gills, and thus the monster was held a prisoner, being finally killed with harpoons.
