GRASS FIRES IN CANTERBURY. Per Press Association. Ashbubton, December 7. Tlie season has been an unusually iry one, with almost continuous dry nor'-west winds blowing. Consequently, pastures are in a very parched condition, and to-day grass fires raged in the Dorie district for nearly three liours, destroying several hundred acres of grass before it was got under. Another small grass fire took plaoe to-day near Hinds.
