CAPE EGMONT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The Cape Egmont Horticultural .Society held its spring show at W'arca on Wednesday in beautiful weather, though it rained continuously for 48 hours before. This rain had the effect of spoiling most of the outdoor blooms, and for this reason the display of cut flowers was not up lo expectations. Hie attendance was large and representative, the door receipts amounting to £" 17s (id. The result of the show is satisfactory financially and a credit balance will be carried forward. In the evening tile Ducker family provided a musical entertainment. The refreshment department was quite a feature, in charge of Mcsdamos Millar, Larking, .judge, Clarke, lievell, Clothier, and Sefton. Mr T. J3 Larking conducted a gift auction, and the amateur knight of the hammer secured excellent prices for the produce submitted. There was a good display of pot plants, and (he prizes were evenly distributed: liegonin, .Mrs W. I>. W. lievell f. lii cut blooms, Mr J. ]!nrgoss secured first prize for hybrid, tea, dark, light, and collections of tea and other roses, collections of pansles, vannas, gladiolus, aquilegia, poppies, Japanese and oil;• irises, and gallardia.
