SOME DISMAL PREDICTIONS.
It is not long since Old Moore set the wide world shuddering with his dismal prediction!, of what is to happen in 1907. Now Zadkiel comes along, and in his almanac offers for 6d a catalogue of iiorrors nearly as terrible as 0 d Moore could give for a penny. The two prophets in many respects corroborate one another. Like Old Moore Zadkiel warns the people of Great Britain thai, though "A good beginniug for our beloved country may assuredly be anticipated," political turmoil wil. soon attend." In the middle and latter half of January ''a crisis will be manifest in Asia" and "vast changes wil soon follow." There is a plentiful crop of shipwreck, earthquake, and famine for the oose of the montii. In February and in May he deigna that "the British Government will b« in a quandary—one of their number will be in some persona; danger," while in March railway accidents '.i ill be frequent and very destructive, snows will bo dyed with human blood. and "our Fleet mu*t be manned and thoroughly equipped so that we may not he taken by surprise." Much toe same is the programme for April, with the addition that "a most impor tant epoch for India is now inaugurated. . . Let the British Government and the Viceroy accept this serious warning that a great crisis is at hand! A wave of fanaticism will surge far and wide oyer Hindustan. Precautions must be taken accordingly, or the consequences will be appalling." As if that were not bad enough, in June ''Mars opposes Jupiter, accentuating religious strife and fanaticism in the East." "Strange sights in the heavens' arc alarm July. There '.vill be floods and earthquakes in September, while in October there will be busy times for doctors and lawyers, and presumably also for the clergy, who "will extend their influences, a revival of religious feeling among the people being presignified." In the dread month of December "the City of London wil reform the administration of its invaluable property," "The Cabinet will find its position awkward and somewhat unsafe," and the prophet hat* grave warnings as to the personal safety of about half th". crowned heads of Europe.
