ADRIFT IN THE ATLANTIC.
150 MILES IN AN OPEN BOAT A thrilling story of a wreck in the Atlantic was told by the crew of the Norwegian wuouen barque Allegru, who weie landed at (Jueenstown on October 10th. Tiiey were 011 a voyage from Cardiff tj and, when well out in the Atlantic, they encountered a terrible slorm, which icausnl their 10 spiing a leak. For five clays and nights tae crew manned the pumps, but despite their efforts, the Water gained on them, and during Sunday night it reached a depth of eleven feet in the hold. The vis « had then become unmanageable, and at 4 a.m. on Monday the ship began to sink, and it 'was decided to leave her. The large boat was launched and it had hardly touched the water when it was dasned to pieces on the ship's side. The smaller boat was then launched, and the crew of thirteen succeeded in getting into it safely. For nearly two days they were adrift :n the Atlantic, suffering much from th» rough sea and exposure. They estimate they had covered nearly 150 mile in this way, and when they were at last signalled by the steam trawler Gwalior and taken on board.
