A London cable states that Mr Joseph Chainberlmu is gaining strength, and goes abroiid shortly. ill's llickmond, widow of Justice Richmond and sister of late Sir Harry Atkmsou, difd in Wellington yesterday. Mrs liichmond landed in New Zealand in 1853.
A Press wire from Greymouth states that the lion.- A li. Guinness is still confined to his bed, and alLkougk improving, it will be some days before ue will ba able to leave liis room.
The wedding took place at Bishopsdale Chapel, kelson, yesterday, says a Press wire, of Mr Kobert Stuart-Low, of Momt'eith, Scotland, and Miss Marion Hell, sister of Dr. Bell, Director of oieoiogical Surveys. Lady Plunket and Captain Braitliwaite, A.D.C., leave for Sydney, en route for England, on January sth. The latter does not return to tlic colony, but joins his iiegiinent (the Lancashire) on arriyal m London. Mr G. Carson lias been appointed a member of the advisory board of Victoria Training- Co.'lege for the districts 3 f Wanganui, Taranaki, Hawkc's Bay, Marlborough and Nelson.
Mr J. B. Foreman has been -e----elected chairman of the Clifton County Council, and Mr C. O'Sullivau Wie Council's representative on the Taianaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
