THE NEW HEBRIDES.
A SUGGESTION. Received 29th, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, November 28. A deputation representing the Presbyterian missions in 'tho Hebrides interviewed Mr Deakin. The principal suggestion made was that lepresentations should be made to the Imperial Government in favour of the Governor-General being appointed British High Commissioner. He could then appoint deputies whenever necessary. The introduction of ticket ot leave convicts, and the recruiting of native labour for service outside me Group, should be prohibited. The deputation asked that the Federal fiscal door be opened a little to *llow of the admission of maize from "..lie Group. The terms of the Convention they regarded as fair, though the balance of the advantage was on •th-i.side of France.
The .reply of the Premier was not available tonight, owing to telegraphic interruption.
