Tlu; Hon, E. McNab, Minister for Lands, was a passenger for Auckland by the liarawa last night.
Mr 11. S. Thompson, of Normanby. who lias for a long time been unwell, is now very seriously ill, says our llawera contemporary.
Sir John Gorst arrived at AVangauui yesterday afternoon. He visited the Collegiate School and Technical School, and drove round the town, says a Press message. Mr J, A, Kinsolla, who has been laid aside in Hawrra with an attack of illness, has recovered, and is now taking a run round some of flic dairy factories.
Mr E. D. Hoben, late sub-editor of the " Sydney Mail," and formerly of the "Evening Post," and "Hawke's Bay Herald," has been appointed Heneral managor of tlio " New Zealand Tunes."
A deputation waited on Mr Tiscli, chairman oi the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, on Monday, and were fortunate enough to prevail upon inm to again accept nomination as the Borough Council's representative on the Board. Messrs Tisch and J. H. Parker were nominated on Monday niijit to represent the borough. Amongst the visitors at the Whit e Hart Hotel at present are the followmg:—Mr and Mrs Hawthorn, Messrs Abrahan, Baird, Black, Fast (Wellington), Morgan (Sydney), Spencer, Swan, Hoult, Kerr, Peat (Wiingauui), Mrs Macey, Messrs Martin, Fowley, Johnston, W hitehouse (Auckland), Mrs Pearco (Patca), Mr Spence (Stratford). The Premier, Sir J. G. Ward, leaves Wellington for the South this evening. On Thursday he will open the new Post Office at Olautau, and on Friday is to he given a reception by the people of Southland at Invercargill, On Monday hp will open the new Post Olliee at Nelson. l'lience ho will return to "Wellington, and deliver a series of addresses at yarions centres in the North Island.
The death occurred at her residence Mangero bridge, ou Friday morning, of Airs J. Massey, sen., the mother of Mr W. F. Massey, M.H.R., leader of the Opposition, jii's Massey, who at the time of her death was upwards of SO years of age, arrived in the colony from the North of Ireland with her husband m the early sixties, and resided lirst at Otahnliu, and later in the West Tamaki I and Mt. Wellington districts, moving from the liiijl-utimed lQei)li(y some years ago-to Ihuuiata. She is survived by her husband, Mr J. Massey, sen., two sons, Messrs W. F. Massey, M.H.R., and J. M. Massey, of the Tamaki, and tn 0 daughters.
