CYCLONE AND TIDAL WAVE.
LOSS OF OFF AND DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. San Fipwisco, October 25. Havana and the other Cuban dis- . tric:s were swept by a terrific cycljne on the i;th October. Cable communication with Havana was cut off, and for some day= it was feared tne city met with some terrible fate. Later it transpired that though the substantial buildings were saved in the city trees were almost entirely . swept away. Twenty persons were . killed at Havana. The rivers overflowed, and much stock was destroyed in the country districts. A despatch from Miami, Florida, sta'es that the death lit there is as high tut one thousand. Barg'S crowded with workmen were swept away and many vessels of all sorts were destroyed. News from San Salvador states that the tempest raged there continuously for ten days, flooding rich valleys »o* causing gre*at lo s s to life a~d property. Over fifteen million tons of water have fallen, and the topography of the di-tilici has changed-. , Houses and bridges have fallen, crops and stock have been swept away, and over one nundred persons drowned. At Coatcpeque a vast quantity of sulphur water was thrown out of the , volcano Chulo, inundating the town , of Punchinalco, and killing most of ' the inhabitants. The tidal wave was acomparlied by a nurricane sweeping all before it.
