RIFLE CLUB PICNIC. FROM OUR OWN CORRESrQNpENT. The Rahotu Rifle Club's annua picnic, which was postponed* fron November 9th owing to the extreme' ly unfavorable weather, was held here jesterday in perfect weather. There was consequently a very large; attendance of riflemen and friends at the range, where the picnic was held. The riflemen devoted the whole day to a shooting competition for the right to hold the championship cup presented by the New" Plymouth Guards, and also for two brooches presented by the Club, for the cup the conditions \vere. seven shots each at 200 yd.*, 300 yds and 500 yds, no handicap,' This was won by Mr J. Colmer, with a score of 87. M r h. Baker also scored 87, but in the count back Mr Colraer won, having scored
most points in the long range. For « the brooches the same scores counted i, with the addition of handicaps. Mr e H. Baker won the first prize with a y score of 87 and 5 points handicap g ■ (tptal <j2), Mr Green being second t with Tf points, handicap 14 (total i 91). At the conclusion Mr Jacob Roth--1 fry, a former captain of the club, presented the trophies t3 the winners. In the. evening the animal social was held, and despite the fact that the evening was unpleasantly warm for dancing and that the milking season ■s now 111 full swing, there was a verv ■ large attendance. Excellent music was provided by Mr Knowlcs, whilst Mr Fielder made an efficient M.C. \ During the early part of the evening 1 soft drinks, thoughtfully provided by 'he club, were handed round anil gratefully appreciated by all, whilst at : 11 p.m. an excellent supper was par- ', •;ike n of, after which dancing was resumed.
