AICKIN'S PECULIAR ATTITUDE DECLINES TO ACCEPT CONDITIONS OF PAROLE. PREFERRING MOUNT EDEN. GAOL. Per Press Association. Auckland, November 20. William Stevenson Aickin, tho sharejbroker who was before the Su« ipremc Court yesterday, in connection with the charge against him |to which he pleaded guilty) of sending; a theatening letter to Sir Josejja Ward, wrote to the Hon. J. A. Tole, Crown Solicitor, this morning, Jeciining to accept the conditions ofj Mr Justice Edwards' decision, which; was to the effect that he be ordered to como up for/seritence when called; upon, and that he find securities tq keep the peace for mree years, and not go beyond a radius of twenty, milefi from the city. l n his letter; Aickin states that he has decided 'o, go to Mount Eden Gaot, and remain tnere until released by death, or unconditionally by tho Government, rather ttian accept Mr Justice, Edwards' largeir prison of 20 miles radius. After referring again at length to. tho Maori laud law matters, Aickin,' says; "I placed myself within reach: oi the law, and must accept the seguopce. The decision was as lib* eraii as could bo expected under the circumstances, and I have no cause, for complaint, but if I am to in tno community again, it must be, as an unfettered man," Aickin appeared at the Court this, afternoon before Justice Edwards. His Honor, alter reading the letter to Mr Tole, suggested to Aickin that he should take a week to econsider tho matter, Aickin assented, and was remanded for a week accordingly.
