At the Police Court this morning, a young man named Carruthers was sentenced to four months for wilfully damaging a mare. The eyidenoe showed that the accused, losing his i temper when trying to make a jibbing ' animal pull a load, broke a shovel handle over its head, and pat lighted furze under its belly. As a rosuit tha mare's udder was destroyed, and heir legs and thighs roasted.
