Tho long di'-tanc weight-forage event was one of the features of a great meeting. There
wore eight runners, a number never equalled cluing the pa , .hiity years, whilt- in regard to class the ln'ic! may be termed ;i wry strong inc. The victoiy of Mr IJiiu O'BiK'n's cult was (X'Hmily popular, and the .votewin owner-trainer was heartily congratulated. Multifield win made Mr O'Brien's third success in the race. His first was gained so long ago- a--1574, when he rule his own horse, Tambouiini, and his second was in 1891, when Freedom, with Dwelt vtp, carried the roc and black fust pas the judge. From reports to hand it transpires that Red Gauntlet was badly galloped on when running on the seond day of the C.J.C. Meeting, which fact no doubt helped to swell the dividend paid in the Jockey Club Handicap. T. Clayton, who rode Poseidon to victory in the Melbourne Cup, ha 1 now placed to his credit two Me'b urric Cups, two Derbies, a Caulfield Cup and an Au-tralian Cup. The cour-e committee of the T.J.C paid a visit to the racecourse o.t Fri day last, wivn the folrw'n-,' ; mprtKe rmn:- were d'-dded up..n : Two first and second payout windows in-id' and the 'time outside; an electtit be! fr; m the stewaids' room to th' totalisator hou-e, also to the jockeys room. A new and up to date divi dend boarcl and board for riders' names is' also to be erected. Wher these and several other contemplated improvements have been ofl'ec ed, the N:nv Plymouth cour-e should be com plete in every respect, ]t is to b" hoped that the elub will be rowardec' with record nominations for the com ing mooting.
