A MORTAL LOVE DUEL.
GERMAN DOCTOR SHOOTS RIVAL. COURT OF HONOR. Berlin- September 7Herr Reitzenstein, a wealthy landowner, and Dr Hessenberg fought a mortal duel thi- morning in a forest in the vicinity of Salendorf, a village a dozen mles from Berlin. They are bachelors, and were for; merly friends, but quarrelled over a woman with whom they were both deeplv in love. Finally they used terms" to each other which were incompatible with the honor of German gentlemen, and the current code of honor necessitated a challenge. A court of honor heard 'he case, and decided that the insults exchanged rendered it necessary for the two men to fight until one of them was disabled. A duel with pistols at fifteen paces was thereupon arranged. Dr He'senberg's first shot pierced Herr Reitzenstein's right lung, and inflicted a mortal wound. Herr Reitzensetein fell, bleeding, and was quicklv removed to the local infirmary, where he lies in a hopeless condition. Dr Hessenberg, his two seconds, and also Herr Reitzenstein's seconds decamped, in order to avoid the consequences of violating the law against duelling.
