owing t> the" men n-fusing to work. ► A conference was then held, when it was agreed that the employee, whose dismissal had caused the troub e, should b« allowed to resign as from the end of November, his wages to be paid to that date, and that all the other men should be allowed to resume work as if nothing had happened ; also that in future any man accused of an offence involving dismissal should have the right to produce evidence in his favour if procurable . The trams then resumed running ps usual.
A HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION. Per Press Association. Auckland, November 14. At about 7.50 tJ night a large 'Crowd gathered in front of the Tramway Company s office, and made a ho.tilc demonstration against the managing director. When he ap peared he was greeted wi'h prolonged hooting and groans. He was subsequently escorted into an adjacent hqtel by several con-tables. At the >ame time two of the company's plate ass windows were smashed by missiles thrown from the crowd.
