MAORIS ENTERTAI: HON. MR. HA I, 1.-J ON I i CHARGE. | Fcr l>res s Associatio: ; Christehmch, Novemb;, Sir John Gorst entertained the Mauris and Cook- Manduis at the Exhibition plantation to-day. The Natives had previous')' entertained him, and he lias returned their kindness. Sir John presided, and amongst those present were Captain Atkin, the British Commissioner, Miss Gorst, Mr A. Hamilton (designer of the pa), Mr McGregor (superintendent of the pa), and Mrs McGregor. Sir John Gorst delivered an address In Maori, and he proposed the toast of the King. This was heartily responded to, and several chiefs replied to the toast. At the conclusion, Sir John Gorst and his daughter presented each man with a pipe, each woman with a workbox, and each chi.d with a bag of sweets. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones arrived this morning, and has taken charge °f the Exhibition duties as resident Minister. He declines to make any siatement of his intentions. Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchope has received a telegram from the Governor expressing his satisfaction with the way in which the ceremony of trooping- the Colours was performed °n the opening' clay of the Exhibition.

JUDGES. Ihe matter of filling the vacant judgeships was left with Mr Watson and ihe secretary. It was decided that the secretary ■•'hould attend the Wanganui show, in (ho interests of the society.
