NOTES ON THE WAVERLEY MEETING. (By "Moturoa."') If the Waverley Club ties.re visitors from this end of Taranaki some alteration in the train service will have to be made. For instance, the only train which visitors from tlii- side of Hawera can return by is timed to leave the racecourse at 5.10, which means that lucky investors on the la-t race will have to forego the pleasure of getung home that night if they desire to collect their d.vidend. On Friday a-t several New Plymouth and inglewood visitors, on arriving a' the platform, were yuietly infoimcd that the train had left, and une : f these positivelyasseris that he arrived at the platform at the advertised time of starting, but "the train has gone" was the only reply he received. This may not be a very serious matter to some of the travellers, but to others it may be the means of cau-ing very great inconvenience. I believe also the same thing occurred at last year's meeting. The club was most unfortunate in having such wretched weather conditions. For seme time the committee the matter of postponement, but finally decided t» go on with the racing. The attendance was very | good considering the weather, as there was little shelter in the grandstand from the driving rain. The racing passed oIT without a hitch; the stewards were not once called togetlmr, A:1 the official* worked hard to make the meeting a success under very adverse circumstances. Lord Soult was the best horse seen out at the meeting, and there is no doubt that the little son of Soult and Lady Antrim is a flyer over a short courso, and- in fact, from the way he finished up his lask in the Jackson Stakes under the heavy impost of lost, ho gave the impression that a longer distance would not have troubled

him. C, Cochrane rode the winner 01 three events, and C. Price two. Vivandale, who con!<s:ed the \V 1!--011 Stakes, is a great big raking mare by Seaton Delava.- —Vivandere. but her size did not enable her lu pace it with the little S"u't gelding. Irish Rifle was made a strong favourite for the Flying Handicap, but had no chance with Dear Do .y,' who was whi-pered about as a good thing, and her supporters were rewarded with a dividend qf £"5 2 i-

A difference of opinion existed as to the time put up by Lord Soult in the Wilson Stakes of four furlongs. The official time was s+sec, whilst another timekeeper made it 50- 1 cThe official programme reflected great credit un the secretary (Mr J. \Y Emmcrson), who evidently spent both time and trouble in compiling ;i list of the peformances, during the present sea-on, of the horses engaged at the meeting which would no doubt be fullv appreciated by followers of form and which aso makes the programme a bandy little book of reference.

When Mr J. Heslup went into the te 1 graph office atOkaiawa to forward a pound for the winning double at Christchurch, he asked his friend Mr Mcl.'Dowie I who was with him) to have a half share, but he ieplied that he did not ear.: about it. "Veiy wc'.l," siid Mr lle-lop, "I'll make you a pre ent uf a half share "1 it wins.'' A' the same time this lucky investor al-o forwarded one pound for investment on Star Rose, so that for the two pounds invest he jvouid receive over £2l on.
