AN UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH. THE SEARCH ABANDONED. (Per rress Association.) Lyttelton, November 11. The tug Champion, which left Lyttelton on October 2(>th to search for the abandoned steamer Port Stephens, returned this morning. The tug encountered dirty weather and yery heavy 1 seas practically the wnole fifteen days, ohe went 40'44 south, 17(i'49 east in a zig-zag course the whole time, but absolutely no sign of the Port Stephens or any other vessel was seen during the cruise. Instructions have been received to abandon further search, and the Champion leaves for Newcastle tomorrow.
