FIRE AT LAWRENCE.
Per Pre-s Association. Duncdin, November 9. By a fire at Lawronce eariy til s jnorning, the Commerc.al Hotel and adjoining build ngs occupied by Mrs Smith were .destroyed by fire. The brigade succeeded in keeping the flames irom extending to Cobb and Co.s stablei n the rear and the Tuapeka Times Office. So fierce was the heat that the .Victoria Hotel, on the oppos.ic side of the street, was sc(•crtly scorched, though played on (continuously by the hoe*. There was. a policy of £IOO on Mrs Smith's building, and the Commercial Hotel .was insured for -£yoo, but the ocup.er, Mr Ma.elatd, who had only been in poasess.on a few weeks, had .BO insurance on h s effects, and he lost everything. The Victoria Insurance Company has a policy of the ,Tuapeka Times Office, but the only joss here is by the hurried removal.
