THE WAIWAKAIHO BRIDGE.
The County Chairman reported to the Council on Monday that a very satisfactory arrangement had been arriyed at concerning the Council's application to the Borough for a grant of £IOOO towards the cost of the erection of the Waiwakaiho bridge. The Borough representatives hud offered £2OO, bat by degrees the more satisfactory iigure of £SOO liiid been reached. The following recommendations were made by the Committee :—That the contribution to be paid by the Uorough Council towards the construction of the Waiwakaiho bridge shall be the stmt of £500; the County Council to have control ot the erection of the bridge and the onus of the stability of the bridge to be upon them, and no further claims to be made upon the Borough Council in connection therewith ; payment of £SOO to be made us follows: Cancellation of liability of the County Council for i-IJOO in connection with the Henui bridge to repi eseut a payment by the Borough of J-300 ; balance of £2OO to be paid by two annual payments of £IOO each during 11)07-8 and IUOB-9. This arrangement to be subject to the approval of the two Councils. Mr k\ H. Wilson, the Deputy-Mayor, waited on the Council and m committee explained how the agreement was arrived at.
The County Council ratified this provisional agreement. The main agreement will provide- for a readjustment in ease of Fitzroy joining the Borough,
