TARIKI.
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Just now the leading topic is the priposed cheese tactory. A good number of settlers met last Thursday evening at the Tariki Hotel, amongst them bemg suppliers to die three crcamer.es, Rugby road, Waipuku anc lariki road. The first two are skim ming stations for the Midhirst Dairy Co., and the third, Tariki road, i» owned by the Moa Dairy Co., Ingle wood. It is proposed to build a factory on the site of the old sawmill and draw supplies from settlers who at present supply the above-mentioned creameries. It is also expected that many scalers who do noj supply the piesent creameries will find it convenient and advantageous to supply to ihe propose cheese factory. Mr Alex Ross, manager of the Cardiff factory, was present by request and gave some valuable information i'e the profits of cheese-making versus butter-making. One settler estimates that with from 37 to 40 cows he has lost this last season something like £sq. He consid eis lie 'would have received this amount more than he did had he been sending his milk to a clmcse factory Instead of ;t butter factory and his ayerago earnings would have been .£44 per annum more. Many of thc settlers are quite enthusiastic over it. It is proposed to call a public meeting to thoroughly discus* and deal with j the question,. It ig expected that Mr Kinsella will attend.
