TURF TOPICS. (By "Mnturoa.") The Auckland Racing Club and several other clubs have recently ad-verti-ed the following notice:—"No money w 11 be received by the club f r investment on the tntnli-ator from any peison not present 011 Iho cotirsV This is certainly a step in ibo light direction to assist the bookmakers; for. instead" ot sending money to ihe machne for investment, t will now b.' reee'ved by tin- bookmakers in the different towns. So there yet seems to be a good time in store for the "Knights of the I>ene'l."_ A report from Wangaruii slates that neither Helen Portland or Fonlonoy will take part in the C.J.C. Meeting. A well known performer in Wet Reef died recently at his owner- training establishment at Haukes Bay. This will be a serious loss to Mr Donnelly who not long ago gave 500 guineas for Go'd Reefs son. Irish Rifle is said to be show'ng good form on the Wanganui tr.iek and should secure a race at the Waverlej! Meeting,.
A party of Opunakc residents paid - a visit to Mr K. Morrow's farm at t K.tlmtti with a view of having' a look i a h 8 hor-es, states an Opunakc i writer. The first bux opened v.a- ten- . anted by tile San Fran-Okoari fit. 1 Mr Morrow gave 5. hj gu neas tor h.s ; dam ,and in selecting the Au-tral'an- - btcd stall.on as the mate a very wise • cr.o ce ha» been made. The co't is just thirteen months old, a light bay '.n color, with three white feet, and a white b aze down the fate. He has a set of legs liko steel bars, and feet, claimed to be by an expert in the party, of the very best. lie has plenty of size, but no lumber, great driv.ng power and is beautifully rib bed up. lie is as docile as a kitten, and when moving is an exact reproduction of his sire. Mr Morrow's intention is to keep the colt until three years old before training him, si that hj? will have every chance, and if he is not some day hailed as the winnei of some big event it w ll indeed be astonishing. The next to be shown was a filly by Jingal out of an loni< mare, and a great credit she is to lid young sire. She is a yearlng ant io" nearly big enough for a two ycai old, and a most 11 kelv looking ga! lupcr. Old St. Laura was running out aniont the cows. This beaati ful male is difficult to breed from ant the la*t attempts have proved ftuit less and Mr Morrow has decided t( give up trying, which seems a grea pity. Jingal, the remarkably shap ed son of Hotclikiss and St. Laura was brought out of his box for inspec tion, and what a picture of a hors lie is, notwithstanding his hoiloi back. His stock are very prornis ing and show no signs of the defec lu is inflected with. There is a bi, future before this stallion and he wi soon be sought after by breeders.
