EXHIBITION SCOTTISH SPORTS.

" COMPETITORS TO BE JJIS. QUALIFIED. Per Press Association. IsvEBCAHniLL, November 2. The New- Zealand Athletic Union has issued a manifesto declaring that uny competitor competing at the Scottish Society's sports at Christchurch on January Ist and 2nd will be disqualified for five years. The embirgo also extends to Australia. [This drastic course has been adopted because of the refusal of the Scottish society.which is holding the meeting on the Exhibition grounds and is subsidised by the Government, to alter the d.ttes of their meeting, which dash with several time-honorcd classic Ctledoman gatherings in the South Island. Tue action of the Christchurch Society was altogether reprehensible, but even Government pressure failed to induce them to concede to the requests of the Athletic Union, The embargo now placed on the meeting by the Union, which, cent.-ois practically the whole of cash athlciics, in the colony, and with widen the Taranaki Athletic and Caledonian Association is ailiiiated, will have the desired effect however, in protecting those older societies, which have lor years held their fixtures ou New le.u-'s Day, and without Government assistance.]
