CHINESE ON THE RAND.
AN ASTONISHING INCREASE. Received Ist, 11.7 p.m. London, November 1. Mi Winston Churchill, in reply to fti E. D. Pickergill, said the depease of whites -on the Rand from April to September was 1000, and the increase of Chinese 3598. Numbers of whiter oo the Rand were unemployed, and this was abundant evidence that the population was becoming alive to the significance of facts, ffhey would be able to express their jriewi in the representative A«etuMr Churchill declared he was unJlble to inform Mr J. B. Markham, jrithout notice, regarding the increase of Kaffirs on the Rand, or whether #tny Chinese were doing skilled Whites' work.
