It was his duty to pass such 1 sentence as would serve as a warning to other people, that if they neglected ■ltildreu in the way accused had done they must bo subjected to severe punishment. It was an excuedingly unpleasant thing for him to pass sentence jpon a woman of her age, and he was 1 ware that the sentence he was about -0 pass would probably entail a good leal of distress for her family, but a Judge had not to consider these per* <onal matters. It was his duty to pass 1 sentence which would be a warning 0 all who were inclined to neglect an niwek'onu! child as the accused had done. He was sorry to treat her with severity, but he could not conseientijusly treat her more leniently. The accused would be sentenced to three years' imprisonment. ! . ..
