The concert held on Friday cveni ir.g in tne Bell Block Hall in aid ol , the Cadet fund was a splend.d suci cess, ijoili financially and as to tie ! appreciation ci" the various items cl j ui-- programme. Mr Cuailes H„s!km occupied the cha.r. and Messrs ji'.i. Street and E. King and uth:r j members of the school committee assisted in making the entertainment the success it undoubtedly was. The i conceit was opened by a pianoforte jduut, beautifully played by the MfsseK.cc. 'I hen the curtains were raised on a dramatic ener.alnm'nt entuiU'ri. '\\ly Mother-in-Law," the principal characters being: M:s> E. • Street as "Motner-in-iaw." "Mr and Mrs Softus/' represented bv Mr 11. Street ancl Miss Hilda Rice rcspictiveiyj j'/rhe ila.d," by iliss Arrow; Mr Siiftus,.«cnior," by Mr Walter Hosskin; "Isabella,'' by Miss May Saiway; -The two old maids," bv Miss Lottie Saiway and Miss Rice'; and "John, the ;g.-<rdincr," by Mr \\. Andrews. The actors and acknew (their parts wcl|\ «iid each one did his or her part very wen indeed. The net part of the programme was opened bv a splcndidlvplayed piece by Miss Giddy. The other in-trumental items were given in grand style by Mrs Rutherford Iviolin) and Aliss Rice (piano). The following ladies and gentlemen sang: Mi-ses Biehop, Aiiuw. M. Sole, 11. Rice, ar.d Messrs Giddy (2). A recitation was given by Mr liejlop and a nice hiile dialogue between Misses H Holmes and M. Pepperill, pupils of the school. Mis? In the ■--eccnd part Jie school girls gave an exhibition of wand drill, to music, whtch was much appieciatcd.' Assisted by the school boys, the girls also sang "Hard Times'' very niceiy. The last item on the programme was given by the cadets, when the manual cxerc se was gone through bv 1.-.1 in under t-U Command of I.ie.je nam Hoby, and one or two in the bedv of the hall competent 10 judge expressed the opinion that tlv fxhib tion wa- -x----ct-llcnti Before leaving the stage the boys sang w,h great vigor the Rugby football song "On thj Ball.' and after the chairman's remarks, were called to attention and came to thv- "pre-em" as the National Anthem was' sung.
Ths hall was quickly prepared for the dance which followed, and she young people enjoyed a very pleasant evening.
