A DEFIANT SEA CAPTAIN.
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. DEFECTIVE LIFE-SAVING GEAR Received 29th, 9.25 p.m. Sydney, October 29. Captain Cordincr, master ot the ship Lord Antrim, was committed for trial for proceeding tu sea in defiance of a detention order, because the ship's life-saving appliances were defective. The Inspector of Navigation deposed that out of fifty lifebelts aboard only fifteen were serviceable. On each of two further charges of proceeding to sea without a pilot, and going to sea with defective life appliances, Captan Cordner .was fined £lO and costs.
