GORE RACES. Per Press Association. Gore, October 24. The spring meeting of the Gore Racing Club opened to-day. The sum of £2BOB was put through the totalisator. an increase of over ihe amount on the corresponding day last year. Results :
Charlton Handicap, seven furlongs. —Rusebioom i, Quicksilver 2, Siiiua 3. Ke;i al>o started. Won easily by luur lengths. Time* i.2. Divi/.nd, /,i iy/. District Hack, six furlongs.—Cross Guaid 1, Oilico Buy 2. Also suited. Maystone, The Tyrant, Cooee, I'iew, Epy. Cuei'o won the race, but a protest was lodged by the owner of the second horse (Cross Guard) on the ground that tho winner was not eligible, being trained outside the radius provided in the conditions. The protest was upheld. Time, 1.20 2-5. Dividends, £1 13/ and 18/. Spring Handicap, one mile and a distance. —Heroism 1, De la Key 2, Quicksilver 3. Also started: Wonderful. Quicksilver led for the first s'x furlongs, and De la Key then supplanted him. The latter led into the straight, but in the run home Heroism beat him easily by three lengths. Time, 2.2. Dividend, £1 15/. Visitors' Hack, seven furlongs.— Stnrment 1, Trump 2, Office Girl 3. Also started: The Romany, Rubretle. Won easily. Time, 1.33 1-5. Dividend. £$ 11/, flying Handicap, six furlongs.— Flying Spark 1, Toncy 2, Rosebloom 3. Regiment also started. Won by half a length. Dividend, £2 1/.

(By "Moturoa.") Happy Maid, .winner of the juvenile Handicap at the Wellington meeting, is by Soult-Merry Maid. Prism, who ran third, is owned by Mr R. Patterson. Saga, who started a hot favorite for the Trial Stakes, received a severe kick from Kitchenmaid while at the post, which no tluubt seriously affected the filly chance in the race. In the Kuahine Hack race Splendid Id<'a, after getting away last, scored easily at the finish. Zimmerman was made favorite [Ol the Pearce Handicap, but the colt turned round when the barrier rose and thuß lust a lot of ground which he was unable to make up. The lion. J. D. "Advance" states that Slicarsby has a very ordinary team at present, of which, perhaps, Bourrasijue is the
most useful. Flamen has gone amiss and will ue a non-starter at the C.J.C meeting;. L. 11. Hewitt was a visitor at the Wellington meeting last week. Tambourina, who was racing in this district some time ago, will now have to retire from regislered meetings on account of having taken part in the first (unregistered) meeting of the Auckland Park Jockey Club. The favorite for the Caulheld Cup, ha- generally had a bad time. Poseidon's win in this year's race marks the second occasion on which the favorite has been successltil dining the -X contests that have eventuated.
