CENTRAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The New Plymouth Centra? School Committee met on Monday evening. Present: Messrs W. A. Collis (Chairman), S. W. Jackson, A. G. Catran, 1. Frethey, Hov. Woolley, Rev. Osborne" J. Grant, and T. White. The Chairman reported that Mr Coekroft had received the appointment to fill the vacancy on fne school staff, caused by the resignation of Mr Harding. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:—K. W. Bond re damage to play ground; Education, Board re closing the school on secoiid day of Agricultural Show—the Committee deluded to close the school as suggested; circular letter itpni theAuckland Public Schools Assistant.Hastcrs's Association, enclosing copy if petition to Parliament suggesting that payment of house allowance \» made to first assistant masters. ef ; schools of Grado 12 and higher* and' requesting the support of School Committees, and if favourably impressed! with the justice of tile movement, that a resolution of support be passed and forwarded to the member of the House of Representatives for the district.— The Committee, after consideration, did not feel disposed to deal with the* nvttter. Mr Collis here retired to attend a me ting of the Borough Council, and Mr Maunder was yoted to the chair. A circular letter was received from the Education Board enclosing copy at circular from the Department of bands and Survey re supply of trees' from the State nurseries for planting ichool grounds, and action was deferred; for the present. The Headmaster's, report, dealing villi the following subjects, was road : -Average attendance for the past iionf h was 507; certain requisites, wore'equired for the Courtenay street chool; the- amount of proceeds of eceut exhibition and sale of work :fter paying all expenses, leaves a!
