Mr George S. Walliss, at one time connected with the advertising department of this journal, died at Masterton yesterday afternoon as a result of an operation for appendicitis. Mr C. Thomas, manager of the Dunedin branch of the Bank of Nev. Zealand, has been appointed to full the vacancy in the bank at Cnristchureh, says a Press wire. Mr Viekers, who has been manager of the local branch of Ihe Opunakc liank of New Zealand for some years, has received mtice of his transference to Picton (writes our Opunakc correspondent). Mr Viekers has always been most courteous and obliging 111 the discharge of his duties, and will be very much missed. Among the visitors staying at the White Hart Hotel are: Messrs Scott.
