It was witli considerable regret we learned late last night that Mr J. C George, who left by Wednesday afternoon's train south on the first stage of his health recruiting trip to the Old Country, hud taken seriously ill on reaching Hawera Beyond the brief tnuouncement, no details of the nature of the attack are available,

Mr E. Harvey-Gibbon, late borough engineer at New Plymouth, has arrived in Gisborne from Australia, haying been appointed engineer to the Gisliorue Borough Council. The following visitors arrived by the mail train last night, and are staying at tlie White Hart Hotel:—Messrs Soinerrille, Scolt, Angus, Montgomery, and Mr and Mrs Ashwin (Wellington). I'haney (Murton), Brady and Low (Wangunui), Buchanan (llawera). Messrs Stanley Col'is and Eric George were the recipients of gifts from their late fcllow-worlters al Messrs Okcy & Bollo's foundry on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. Downs, ivho made the presentations, made reference to Mr Coliis' live years' and Mr George's three years' service at the foundry, and wished them every success and happiness in their new sphere? of life. The hope Was expressed thai ihey would often remember their old mates at the foundry, and would write occasionally of their journeyings and experiences. He then handed to each a pretty greenstone and gold pendant, one bearing the inscription " Kia ora," and the other crossed fern leaves, with pearl netting. In replying, the recipients made reference to the excellent choice of the emblematic gifts, which would over serve to remind them of Ncw Zealand, and of their New Plymouth friends, -Mr Collis is now 111 Wellington, awaiting an engineers' berth on a steamer, whilst Mr George accompanies his father on a trip to England.
