THE ABANDONED STEAMER.
VESSEL SENT IN SEARCH. Per Press Association. Dunedin, October 16., The Union Company has instructed Captain Stringer, of the Rakanoa,. to search for the abandoned steamer Port Stephens. He will spend some, days about the locality whore the; Port Stephens was last seen, and then, cqll at the Buff and telegraph the result of the search before proceeding to Newcastle. The Rakanoa, which 'eft to-night, carries an extra crew and at special supply of bunker coal. There: is a possibility that the abandoned steamer may be picked up by the Uinemoa, which left some days ago to make her periodical examination of the depots at the Auckland and and other islands.

Sydney .October 16. Considering the position of the drift, shipping circles consider tbd crew of the Port Stephens were fully justified in abandoning the steamer.
